If you've encountered an error related to the d3dx9_25.dll file when trying to launch a game or program, you're not alone. This is a fairly common problem that often occurs after reinstalling Windows or when launching an old but beloved game for the first time. The error message may look scary, but the cause is usually quite simple.
This file is part of the Microsoft DirectX package, or more precisely, one of its additional components. Many games and applications, especially those released several years ago, depend on such files to work with graphics and sound. If the system cannot find the right file in the right place, it simply refuses to run the program and displays this error window.
The good news is that this problem can almost always be solved quickly and easily. You don't need to be a computer genius to fix it. In most cases, all you need to do is install the missing component on your computer, and the game or program will work as it should. Let's take a look at how to do this correctly.
Method 1: Download d3dx9_25.dll
You can fix the problem with d3dx9_25.dll by simply trying to download the file separately and moving it to the correct directory.
“About phone”
This directory is located in different places on different operating systems, but most often the file needs to be moved to the path C:\Windows\System32. In 64-bit Windows, we also recommend using the path C:\Windows\SysWOW64 (the file must be copied to two folders at once). To move it, you can use the context menu by selecting the options “Copy” and “Paste”, you can open the two necessary folders and move the file by dragging and dropping it.
In rare cases, you may need to register the library in the system. This is done through “Command Prompt”, open with administrator privileges.

Write the command here regsvr32 d3dx9_25.dll, and if the file was placed in two folders, then also regsvr32 “C:\Windows\SysWOW64\d3dx9_25.dll”. After entering each command, press Enter.
You can find other ways to register in our separate article at the link below.

If an error message appears when you start a game or program saying that the file d3dx9_25.dll is missing, this means that your computer is missing a necessary part of the DirectX library used by older applications. Most often, the problem can be solved by simply installing or reinstalling the DirectX package, or even better, by updating the Visual C++ redistributable packages, as many programs depend on them. It is not recommended to download the d3dx9_25.dll file from suspicious websites, as this can be dangerous; it is better to restore the system using official tools.
Method 2: Installing DirectX 9
As mentioned above, d3dx9_25.dll is part of the DirectX 9 program. This means that by installing it, you will also install the missing file on your system. It should be noted that DirectX is already built into Windows 10, so the steps for repairing damaged files or obtaining all package files will be slightly different. We have provided instructions for owners of this OS version in a special guide.

If you are using a computer running an older version of the system, do the following:
Download DirectX
- Find your OS in the list. Click “Download”.
- In the dialog box that appears, uncheck the boxes for the suggested packages to download and click the button. “Cancel and continue…”
DirectX 9 will begin downloading. Once it is complete, follow the instructions:
- Open the downloaded program. Accept the license agreement and click. “Next”.
- Uncheck the box “Install Bing Panels”, if you don't need them, and click “Next”.
- Wait for all components of the package to download and install.
- Complete the installation by clicking ‘Finish’.
Among the installed libraries was d3dx9_25.dll, which means that the error has been fixed.
Method 3: Fixing game errors
It is important to understand that this error can occur not only due to operating system failures. Sometimes a “crooked” game build (usually cracked) flatly refuses to detect a file that is present in all the necessary folders. In such a situation, you should re-download the installer or find another installer, preferably one that has not been modified by amateur authors. If the game is licensed, all you can do is reinstall it, but if it was installed through a game client such as Steam or Origin, you can first try to verify the integrity of the files.
Steam
- Open the section “Library” in the game client and find the game that is causing problems. Right-click on it and go to “Properties”.

- Go to the tab “Local files”.

- Here you need the button “Verify integrity of game files”. Start the procedure and wait for it to finish. Once the scan is complete, a notification will appear in a separate window indicating whether any errors were corrected or not.

Origin
- Go to “Library” in Origin and find the tile with the game. Right-clicking on it will bring up a context menu, from which you should select “Restore”.

- The process will start, and a notification about this will be displayed in the same tile and on the left.

- At the end, you will receive a notification of successful recovery, after which you need to check the game's performance.

As obvious as it may seem, installation problems often occur because there is simply not enough free space on the device, especially on older smartphones or tablets with limited built-in memory. Even though most modern devices have a decent amount of physical memory, it's important to remember that software and multimedia files also take up a lot of space. You can find out how much space is available in your internal storage using the built-in tools. You can also free up space right away:

We hope these tips have helped you quickly resolve the error and get back to your favorite game or important program. If the problem persists, don't forget to check for updates for your video card — sometimes the root of the problem lies in outdated drivers.
