You can create your own mouse shortcuts, keyboard shortcuts, or schedules by selecting "Mouse control," "Hotkey control," or "Timer transmission restrictions." For instance, you can use Ctrl + Shift + Mousewheel to change the brightness or program it to automatically dim by 50% at night.

What are the most popular monitor resolutions

Reporting
An external monitor’s ability to be controlled relies on how well it complies with DDC/CI instructions. Monitor control via DDC
I believe everyone is aware of the DDC capabilities of monitors. Typically, the X server uses it to ascertain image parameters, and administrators use ddcprobe to investigate "what the X server did wrong" (ddcprobe displays the modes that the monitor believes it supports).
DDC is a two-way protocol, though. It tells the monitor what the computer needs from it in addition to what the monitor is capable of.
Users of Samsung monitors running Windows are familiar with their magic tune, which lets you adjust contrast and brightness using a (complicated) program. Nonetheless, there exists an intriguing approach to utilizing the monitor: the ddccontrol utility.
This tool allows you to:
- Change the brightness, contrast, gamma of the image. Moreover, the brightness is changed by changing the backlight brightness! (of course, if the monitor is physically able to do this)
- Switch presets (movie/text/user/game) programmatically; this is much more convenient than poking the corresponding button on the monitor itself
- Play with undocumented monitor capabilities, for example, call languages and settings items blocked from the menu. On my monitor, for example, I was able to move the picture when working via DVI (usually this menu item is only available for VGA)
- Lock the monitor buttons (I think this is not the case with all models, but you can definitely do it with Samsung). All buttons are blocked except for on/off, turning the monitor off/on resets this blocking.
- Turn on and off the monitor (completely, without the blinking light in standby)
Thus, the following are some instances of using the tool:

The "VESA standard monitor" is a complete monitor that is just missing from the ddccontrol database; you will need to look for the required attributes in the registers on your own. You can disregard it. I’ll display every example on this particular "unknown" monitor.
DDC states that the monitor’s fundamental working principle is that it has registers (numbered 0 through 255) with known, acceptable values. Although each monitor interprets these registers differently, a particular general set typically coincides.
When using ddccprobe -d dev:/dev/i2c-2, all monitor registers are shown along with a hint if the monitor is recognized by ddccprobe.
Take note of the prefix dev:. Setting the Internet mode with DDCCONTROL -R 0XDC -W 2 DEV:/DEV/I2C -2
The register to write to is -r 0xdc. The writing command and value are represented by -w. User mode is 0, a movie is 5, etc.
To set the "Internet" mode, type ddccontrol -r 0xdc -w 2 dev:/dev/i2c-2. A register to write in is -R 0xDC; a team to write in is -W; and a meaning to write is -W. User mode is 0, movie mode is 5, etc.

And now for a few unreported features:

To enable language, type ddccontrol -r 0xCC -w 0 dev:/dev/i2c-2 in the menu. 0 — Chinese First, Japanese; second, English Russian is number nine. Though the menu itself makes it impossible to set Chinese or Japanese, it’s still interesting.

Though I never got around to it, I’ve been considering adding this feature—fullscreen mode with the movie turned on—to a video player for a while.
What is ddc ci in monitor settings?
The DDC/CI function is supported by the majority of monitors, but few people are aware of it, let alone know how to use it or what its purposes are.
This is partially because the majority of manufacturers don’t plan to create custom programs for them.
What is DDC/CI?
A sort of communication between a computer and a monitor is called Display Data Channel (DDC) / Command Interface (CI). It has a collection of protocols that are used to send data about supported video modes and display models.
DDC basically lets the monitor tell the computer which video modes it supports.
More significantly, though, is that the data channel lets the user modify and control display settings straight from the computer, including brightness, contrast, and color gamut.
A command interface (CI) is a channel that allows a computer and monitor to communicate with each other by sending and receiving commands in both directions. Even rotating sensors known as auto-pivot technology are supported by certain monitors. When tilting the monitor in different directions, this technology maintains the screen’s horizontal orientation.
How to use DDC/CI
Make sure the monitor supports DDC/CI before using it. This feature is typically limited to models that are three to four years old.
Certain manufacturers create software that adheres to this standard; one such example is Samsung MagicTune. Of course, though, Samsung software is incompatible with models made by other companies.
ClickMonitorDDC is the best program if you’re looking for a universal one that lets you use DDC/CI regardless of the manufacturer. You will be able to take control of all active displays with it, making it appropriate for situations where multiple monitors (of various brands) are being used.
Here’s a quick tutorial on using ClickMonitorDDC to enable, install, and configure DDC/CI:
Check to see if DDC/CI is enabled by clicking the Settings button on the monitor.
DDC/CI is enabled by default on most models, but before moving on to the next step, make sure this option is turned on.

Note: While testing has shown that installing the standard version under Windows operates more steadily, you are still able to download the portable version.

Till the installation is finished, adhere to the instructions displayed on the screen. To install the application, click the "Install" button without making any changes to the default settings.
Using ClickMonitorDDC to control two displays
The program will automatically identify every monitor that is connected to your computer when you first open it. Two Asus and Acer models are tested, and the functionality functions perfectly. Each connected monitor has its own control panel and is shown at the top.
You can change the input sources, turn off the display, and change the brightness, contrast, and volume of the integrated speakers without actually pressing the power button.
You can give monitors names in the ClickMonitorDDC settings to make them easier to manage.
It should be mentioned that not every monitor has a contrast adjustment feature.
If you’re not comfortable with the ClickMonitorDDC interface, there are a number of other free options available:
- Display Tuner (32-bit version);
- softMCCS;
- MagicTune (only for Samsung).
However bear in mind that these programs are either specific to the manufacturer or necessitate expertise for initial setup. Therefore, ClickMonitorDDC is a better option if you’re looking for a straightforward program that you can set up in a matter of minutes.

The six-button touch block that controls the monitor has a white backlight that can be turned on by pressing any of the keys. The power button is the only exception; once activated, there is no way to turn off its backlight.
The system reacts to user actions with great speed and minimal delay; the menu speed is high. The monitor is easy to operate during the day and at night when there is no external lighting because of its backlight and on-screen prompts.
A navigation block with five icons appears at the bottom of the screen when you press any of the control buttons. Quick access to changing image modes, adjusting brightness, and choosing a signal source is preconfigured by the manufacturer. The final two buttons allow the user to choose the desired sections and parameters.










DDC/CI
In August 1998, the DDC/CI (Command Interface) standard was unveiled. It describes how a computer can use a bidirectional channel to send commands to a monitor and receive sensor data from the monitor. The distinct Monitor Control Command Set (MCCS) standard, version 1.0, published in September 1998, defines specific commands for managing monitors.
An external color sensor is occasionally included with DDC/CI monitors in order to automatically adjust the color balance of the display. A rotation sensor in certain tiltable DDC/CI monitors enables the operating system to maintain the display’s upright position when the monitor is shifted between portrait and landscape orientations.
A limited number of MCCS commands are supported by the majority of DDC/CI monitors, and some of the commands are not documented. While DDC/CI was once disregarded by many manufacturers, nearly all monitors today support standard MCCS commands like contrast and brightness control.
The DDC/CI standard offers a way to package the commands of the monitor control command set and describes all three bidirectional control protocols (DDC2Ab, DDC2Bi, and DDC2B+) in one standard.
In October 2004, the DDC/CI was adopted in version 1.1.
The monitor control command set was adopted in October 2003, version 2.0. Although MCCS V3, a new version, was unveiled in July 2006, the industry has not given it enough attention as of yet. Version 2.2 of the V2 standard is the most recent version, which was approved in February 2009.
OS support for DDC / CI
Even though DDC/CI is widely used on displays manufactured after 2016, the operating system usually does not use it by default to regulate brightness on external displays. The display can be controlled by additional software, though there may be differences in the level of system integration.
DDC/CI is offered by Windows as a set of Win32 API monitor configurations.

At I2C bus address 0x37, the DDC/CI device appears to be a client (0x6e for write transactions, 0x6f for read). The format of data being sent or received is in frames, with a fixed prefix byte at the beginning of each frame, followed by the payload’s length, the payload itself, and a checksum created by XORing the sent and received I2C messages. The initial XOR value appears to be fixed for read transactions and is equal to the I2C address submitted on the wire, depending on the operation attempted. On the VGA interface only, my Samsung SM173T provides DDC/CI; it is not available on the DVI. However, it has the ability to change its settings in DVI mode through a VGA interface (both cables are connected to my dual-head ATI Radeon 9200 card).

A modern computer is an intricate machine. To make the process of configuring and setting up a system simpler, development companies introduced the Plug&Play specification for precisely this reason. Ensuring data exchange between the connected monitor and the system unit is necessary to ascertain its capabilities.
The VESA Association developed a standard called DDC (Display Data Channel). This standard provides for the monitor to provide information to determine the degree of compatibility between the monitor and the video adapter and to automatically configure the video adapter. Data exchange is carried out via a standard VGA cable. To support this standard, a memory chip must be installed in the monitor and additional registers must be on the video adapter. Today, there are three main DDC standards: DDC1, DDC2B, DDC2A/B. Data is transferred via a serial interface consisting of two lines: a data line (DDC Data) and a synchronization line (DDC Clock). Data transfer is synchronized by a clock signal on the DDC Clock line with a frequency of up to 25 kHz. Each data bit is latched on the leading edge of the synchronization signal. Nine clock pulses are generated for each byte of data (Fig.1), one of which (the last) is an acknowledgement pulse (ACK).
The manufacturer’s name, product code, serial number, manufacturing date, screen size, color characteristics, monitor type, supported graphic modes, and a checksum are all contained in a 128-byte message that the monitor outputs during initialization.
In addition, all monitor parameters can be changed programmatically (with the use of specialized software) when utilizing DDC2B and DDC2A/B. In this instance, the PC sends control data to the monitor. Let’s take a quick look at each standard.
Unidirectional serial data transfer from a monitor to a PC is supported by the DDC1 standard. The data is sent over an extra DDC Data line, while the clock signal is sent over the vertical synchronization line (Fig. 2).
Bidirectional data transfer between a PC and a monitor is supported by the DDC2B standard. In this instance, two additional lines are used for data transmission: DDC Data for the data and DDC Clock for the clock signals. One of the command systems (DID, ExtEDID, VDIF) is used to transfer data. The I2C interface, created by Philips, is the foundation for this interface (Fig. 3).
DDC2A and B analogous to the DDC2B protocol. based on the Access Bus interface (which is an I2C interface extension). The rate of data transfer is at least 8 Kbytes/sec.
A monitor that complies with one of the standards mentioned above, a video adapter that complies with the same standard, and the appropriate operating system (or program) are needed for the connected monitor to be automatically detected at system startup.
Consider the command system (EDID, ExtEDID, or VDIF) that is being used for data transfer when selecting equipment. The monitor and video adapter’s user manual (USER MANUAL) ought to have all of this information.

An explanation. Electrically resistant memory microcircuits (EEPROMs) with a 1 Kbt capacity and a 128×8 bit layout are found in the ST24LC21, ST24LW21, FT24FC21, and ST24FW21 models.
The ST24XY21 label assigns a value of L to the chip’s VESA 1 compatibility and a value of F to VESA 2 compatibility. The connection line connection (Write Control WC) is defined by y: C denotes joining WC to contact 7 and W to contact 3.
