For me, reading is a way of life rather than just a pastime. If I haven’t read anything during the day, I perceive that I haven’t had any food. I make a lot of effort to have books all around me and to carve out time for reading. My friends who are avid readers have partners who have no interest in literature at all. But the memory of the evening when everything “came together” will be one of those that we call happy.

It’s no secret to those who favor e-readers that deforestation is necessary in the production of printed publications. In my opinion, neither side has won nor lost this conflict. Each has benefits and drawbacks. Reading is every book’s primary objective. Furthermore, it, as we all know, expands perspectives and fosters imagination. You can choose how to read and in what format!

The proliferation of tablets, e-readers, and smartphones has an impact on people’s disinterest in paper books. The fact is that it is far simpler to download dozens of books to a small device that is always with you than to stuff shelves at home or a backpack for travel.

As for me, I’ve been reading on my iPhone screen for a very long time because I enjoy reading. You can read a chapter or two of an engaging book whenever you have some free time without drawing attention to yourself or feeling uncomfortable.

It’s true that I have no aesthetic pleasure at all.

Paper books have a certain charm; you pick one in a store, turn the pages, and see how many are left until the end. I’m not sure how this magic happens. Particularly now that we’re starting to wean ourselves off analog books in the same way that we’re weaning ourselves off handwriting, it’s really poignant.

Although e-books are easier to access, the brain processes the information from them less effectively than it would if the same text were read on paper. Based on numerous tests and experiments, an increasing number of scientists are reaching this conclusion.

E-Ink Technology

The screens of the first readers were created with a lower resolution utilizing the same technologies as monitor or mobile displays. As a result, regular long-term reading caused the eyes to become extremely tired, which eventually led to a decline in vision. E-Ink technology powers the screens of contemporary models. It’s an electronic ink that shouldn’t hurt the eyes and could theoretically replace paper.

How E-Ink works

The E-Ink display works on a straightforward principle: very thin plastic pages make up the screen, and inside are multicolored (black and white) ink that is spread over the cells. These cells receive a positive or negative electric charge, which causes them to move in predetermined directions and change color to produce the desired image. Pros and cons of printed books

Classic books that are bound to last forever are printed books. The following are some of their benefits:

Although it may appear that printed books are less advantageous than electronic ones, this is not the case. However, due to their size and weight, it can be challenging to take them somewhere by car or to bed before going to bed.

I eventually reached the point where I began reading on my devices, but things didn’t work out too well there either.

For instance, it is preferable to travel with an e-book. This is also your best bet if you frequently move or rent an apartment. However, there’s nothing more comfortable than curling up with a cup of cocoa and a cat by your side to read a paperback book. or glancing through a bookshop’s shelves?

It makes no difference if you are holding a paper book or an electronic book. This is just a question of taste.

And those who don’t know read erratically, failing to retain the material or derive any value from it.

Now, though, let’s return to the arena where paper books and e-books face off. In this instance, friendship, I think, triumphed. The development of e-books will not lead to the demise of paper books, just as television did not replace theater and electronic music did not replace instrumental music. That’s excellent news, too, since it makes us infinitely wealthier.

Disadvantages of an e-book:

• Unreliability. As soon as a breakdown occurs – and goodbye, hundreds of books collected from all corners of the Internet, bought on websites, downloaded from friends … When we carelessly spill tea or drop a paper book in the bathtub – only one will suffer. After such an incident with a gadget, the entire library disappears at once.
• Low quality. Most likely, this disadvantage is temporary and will be eliminated later. Books on the Internet are often not proofread by anyone. It happens that you download, look, – and this is a scan from a paper source, recognized in FineReader and never edited. Here you go, cubes, hieroglyphs, and sections of illegible text.
• Inconvenience in reading. Yes, it is convenient to carry e-books, but reading is not so. Or rather, not for everyone. We will not give figures, but they confirmed that paper books have a significant advantage in this matter. Why? The answer lies in the previous point. When reading, the brain tries to create certain hooks, "anchors". When we deal with a paper book, these hooks are the color of the cover, the format of the publication, the characteristics of the binding, the type of pages, smells, the arrangement of the text, the presence of pictures. Thanks to all this, a structure is created in the head that helps to search for the necessary information in memory. In the electronic version, all the texts are the same, so the brain has nothing to cling to except the data itself.
• When reading a paper book, we experience emotions more vividly. Again, this is confirmed by experiments. Scientists have studied the physiological reactions of the body, and in particular the activity of the nervous system when reading paper and electronic books. In the first case, these reactions were almost twice as high.
• Let"s not discard such nice nuances as the smell of book pages, the pleasure of buying a fresh volume in a beautiful cover, looking at the spines on the shelves of a home library… Simply put, paper books themselves evoke more pleasant emotions.
• By the way, a home library stimulates children to read much more than an e-book. Rows of colorful volumes arouse curiosity, while the use of gadgets is reduced to games and social networks.

The emergence of e-books has undoubtedly changed the way we read since they provide accessibility and convenience that traditional paper books just cannot match. Many readers, especially those who are on the go, find that e-books offer a modern solution because they can store thousands of books on a single device and have settings that can be adjusted to suit their comfort level.

Still, many people have a particular place in their hearts for paper books. Nothing compares to the joy of perusing a real bookshelf, the distinct smell of books, or the tactile experience of turning pages. Some people view these sensory elements as being fundamental to the reading experience.

The decision to use paper books or electronic books is ultimately a personal one. Both are worthwhile, and both can coexist in a society where reading is still a highly valued activity in any format.
