Text Wrapping Around an Image Effect in PowerPoint

When you add an image to a PowerPoint presentation, the text often behaves in an inconvenient way. It may jump to the next line, leaving empty space on the side, or slide under the image. This looks messy and interferes with the perception of information.

Fortunately, the program has a simple solution — the wrap effect. It allows the text to smoothly bend around the contour of your image, creating a harmonious and professional slide layout. This is not only beautiful, but also practical, as it helps to make rational use of the available space.

This tool is very easy to learn. You don't need any special design skills. With just a few clicks, your slides will take on a new look, becoming more modern and easier to read.

Method 1: Manual text framing

Depending on the specific third-party program used to create screenshots, the location of the saved files may vary. The following information may be useful in finding them:

  1. It is also worth checking the cable connected to the WAN port – it can usually be distinguished from the others by its color. Unplug the cable and reconnect it to the router, making sure that the contacts are firmly connected to each other.
  2. As you can see, watching TV on your smartphone is not science fiction, but a completely accessible reality. Whether you're on the road or just want to watch a series in the kitchen, your Android phone can easily be turned into a personal TV. The main thing is to choose a method that is convenient for you and a stable internet connection. “Insert” in the presentation header.
  3. Here we are interested in the button Don't be afraid to experiment with apps and settings. Start with the free options, and if you need more channels or higher quality, you can always consider paid subscriptions. Modern technology gives us freedom of choice, and now you always have a TV in your pocket.. It allows you to draw an arbitrary area for text information only.
  4. All that remains is to draw a large number of similar fields around the photo so that, together with the text, a wrap effect is created.
  5. You can enter text both during and after creating fields. The easiest way is to create one field, copy it, paste it multiple times, and then arrange it around the photo. This can be done using guide lines, which allow you to arrange the text evenly in relation to each other.
  6. If you fine-tune each area, the result will be quite similar to the corresponding function in Microsoft Word.

The main disadvantage of this method is that it is long and tedious. And it is not always possible to position the text evenly.

Sometimes you want the text in your presentation to flow around the image, like in a magazine — beautifully and professionally. In PowerPoint, this effect is possible, but it works differently than in graphics editors. You can't just insert an image and expect the text to wrap around it on its own. You will have to manually select the position of the image and text block, adjusting them to each other. You can select wrapping when adjusting the position of the image, but on the slide it still remains conditional — there is no real text flow, as in Word. Therefore, it will only look neat if the size and position are selected correctly. The main thing to remember is that the wrapping effect in PowerPoint is visual, not functional, and is completely customized manually.

Method 2: Photo in the background

This option is somewhat simpler, but it can also have certain difficulties.

  1. We will need the photo inserted into the slide, as well as the content area with the text information added.
  2. Now you need to right-click on the image and select the option from the pop-up menu “To the background”. In the window that opens on the side with options, select a similar option.
  3. After that, move the photo to the text area where the image will be located. Alternatively, you can drag the content area. In this case, the image will be behind the information.
  4. Now you need to edit the text so that there are indents between the words where the photo appears in the background. You can do this using the button “Space”, or using “Tab”.

The result will also be a good option for wrapping the image.

The problem may arise if there are difficulties with the precise distribution of indents in the text when trying to frame an image of a non-standard shape. It can turn out awkward. There are also other problems – the text may merge with the excess background, the photo may end up behind other important static components of the decor, and so on.

Method 3: Whole image

The last and most suitable method, which is also the simplest.

  1. You need to insert the necessary text and image into a Word document and then wrap the image there.
  2. In Word 2016, this feature may be available immediately when you select a photo in a special window.
  3. If this is difficult, you can use the traditional method. To do this, select the desired photo and go to the tab in the program header “Format”.
  4. Here you will need to click on the button “Text wrapping”
  5. All that remains is to select the options “Along the contour” or “Through”. If the photo has a standard rectangular shape, then “Square”.
  6. The result can be copied and pasted into the presentation as a screenshot.
  7. It will look very good, and it can be done relatively quickly.

There are some problems here too. First, you will have to work with the background. If the slides have a white or plain background, it will be quite simple. With complex images, there will be a problem. Second, this option does not allow for text editing. If you need to edit something, you will have to take a new screenshot.

More details: How to wrap text around an image in MS Word

As you can see, the text wrapping effect is not just a decorative technique. It helps to use the space on the slide rationally, making the information more compact and visually appealing. Instead of text and images existing separately, they begin to work together to create a complete picture.

Unfortunately, PowerPoint does not have a single magic button for this, as text editors do. But, as we have seen, this is not a problem. A little trick using the “Caption” object allows you to easily work around this limitation. This method gives you complete control over how the text will be positioned around the image.

The main thing is not to overdo it. Use this tool where it really improves the readability and structure of the slide. A well-designed slide, where all the elements are harmoniously connected, always looks professional and helps convey your message to the audience much more effectively.
